The Golf sets extremely high standards in terms of technology: the "Park Assist" parallel parking system, ParkPilot at the front and rear and the rear-view camera guarantee the ultimate in comfort and convenience when parking. The camera is hidden in the pivoting Volkswagen badge on the rear, only emerging automatically when needed. There are also fog lights with static cornering lights to guarantee optimum visibility.

The Golf boasts an outstanding safety concept, equipped as it is with the latest generation of ESP, counter-steering assistance, ABS with brake assist, engine drag torque control (MSR) and trailer stabilisation. Traction control (TCS) prevents the wheels from spinning on slippery surfaces, while optimum occupant protection is offered in the form of airbags for the driver and front passenger with deactivation facility on the front passenger side, head and side airbag systems, plus a knee airbag for the driver.

Fuel-efficient engines provide optimum power delivery in the Golf. These include a choice of intelligent petrol engines with innovative TSI technology. The 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox enables convenient gear-shifts with uninterrupted power flow and at the same time makes a significant contribution to reduced fuel consumption and emissions.

Among the petrol engines, the 59 kW (80 hp) unit has a special status. No other engine in the Golf is chosen by customers as often as this one. One reason for this is its especially economical fuel consumption. The 1.4l engine with 5-speed manual gearbox requires just 6.4 litres of fuel for 100 kilometres – 0.5 litres less than the comparable engine in the predecessor model. All engines in the Golf have one thing in common: they all satisfy the Euro 5 emissions standard. (CO2 emissions: 149 g/km)*.

The Golf is reaching for the stars and already has the five most important ones - the best Golf ever achieved exemplary results in the Euro NCAP crash test. Over the three test sections, which examine occupant, pedestrian and child protection, it scored a total of 36 out of a possible 37 points. The particularly sturdy body, which has undergone further improvement compared to its predecessor’s, and the new sensor concept for detecting collisions help to achieve this high standard of safety, as does the comprehensive safety specification: standard equipment for the Golf includes seven airbags, an innovative head restraint system, plus ESP with brake assist.
